As a child, I often spent weekends at my best friend’s house in Tököl, Hungary. I enjoyed being there because it felt like being part of a big, welcoming family. There were four children close in age, and we spent most of our time playing outside in the large garden, which had a small lake and many plants. Looking back as an adult, I’ve come to appreciate just how much effort my friend’s mother put into creating that atmosphere. She was a single mother who managed to raise her children with care and attention, while also maintaining the garden and working at the same time.
This photography series documents a day in her current life. Today, she still lives in the same house and continues to care for the garden—along with goats and chickens. She makes cheese and soap from goat’s milk and handles a wide range of daily tasks, all on her own. The aim of this project is to show the strength, dedication, and work involved in her everyday life—work that often goes unnoticed but is deeply meaningful.
